TLDR

Ondo Finance launched three onchain portfolio tokens built on BlackRock model portfolio strategies. The tokens are BLKHIon, BLKDIGon, and BLKGRWon, covering income, diversified growth, and high growth strategies. ONDO price rose over 16% to around $0.48, up 37% over the past week. The products are only available to eligible non-U.S. investors in permitted jurisdictions. The launch comes while a legal dispute over company control continues following founder Nathan Allman’s death.

Ondo Finance has launched three new tokenized portfolio products built on strategies developed by BlackRock. The launch happened on Thursday and forms part of a wider rollout of seven tokenized model portfolios.

These portfolios hold a mix of assets. Depending on the strategy, that includes stocks, bonds, and Bitcoin ETFs.

How The Tokenized Portfolios Work

Investors do not need to buy each asset separately. Instead, they mint or redeem a single token that represents the whole basket.

Ondo says all holdings, weights, and rebalances are visible onchain. This means anyone can check what is inside each portfolio at any time.

The tokens can also move between wallets, exchanges, and DeFi protocols. This makes them tradable 24/7, unlike traditional investment funds.

For now, the products are only open to eligible investors outside the United States. They must also be located in permitted jurisdictions.

BlackRock’s role in this deal is limited. The company only provides the model portfolio strategies based on specifications from Ondo.

BlackRock does not manage the onchain tokens directly. It also does not handle their issuance, custody, or daily operation.

Ondo Finance Acting CEO Ian De Bode said the portfolios give investors a new way to access diversified strategies through a single token. BlackRock’s Lisa O’Connor added that the deal shows how older portfolio methods can move onto newer platforms.

Ondo’s Wider Tokenization Push

This is not Ondo’s first deal with a major financial firm. Days earlier, it partnered with Near Protocol to launch tokenized stocks and ETFs, including Tesla, Nvidia, Apple, and QQQ products.

Ondo Stocks has already reached $1 billion in total value locked within eight months of launching. The company also previously moved $95 million of its OUSG assets into BlackRock’s BUIDL fund.

BlackRock itself has been expanding its tokenization work throughout the year. In August, it launched two tokenized money market products designed for stablecoin reserves.

The ONDO token reacted strongly to the news. It is currently trading near $0.48, up more than 16% in the past day.

Over the past week, ONDO has gained more than 37%. Year-to-date, the token is up over 33%.

This rise came even as the wider crypto market fell. Bitcoin dropped as low as $83,000 in the same 24-hour period.

The launch also comes during an ongoing legal dispute at Ondo. Kathleen Allman, mother of late founder Nathan Allman, is seeking control of the company and the removal of De Bode as CEO, alleging he took the role without board approval. De Bode has called the claims “meritless.”
