Over the weekend, a clip starring Olivia Rodrigo was shared by several popular fan pages. The short video uses the viral Eric Mays audio, with Rodrigo denying that she’s just “playing” on her phone and is actually “taking care of business”. The meme then shows Rodrigo starting a game of Fortnite.

It comes after Fortnite fans discovered a pink swing hanging from a tree with a knife embedded in the trunk, with many believing it was a reference to the cover art of Rodrigo’s third album.

Epic Games haven’t officially confirmed the Olivia Rodrigo crossover yet, but the roll-out is similar to previous Fortnite Festival headliners such as Billie Eilish, Sabrina Carpenter and Laufey.

Laufey is the current headliner of Fortnite Festival and their ‘A Matter Of Time’ experience had been due to wrap up July 15 but was recently extended to July 29. It’s now expected that Rodrigo will takeover from Laufey. If she is the next Fortnite Festival headliner, fans can expect more of her songs to be added as Jam Tracks, alongside Rodrigo-inspired skins, emotes and cosmetics.

Speaking to NME about her Fortnite crossover, Laufey said: “It’s a collaboration you might not expect from me. When I started out, I was known as this jazz girl and people assumed I was timid and soft.  Running around with a gun [in Fortnite] is absolutely the best way to show that there are so many more layers to me.”

Fortnite is just so fantastical,” she continued. “It’s something that you’d never see in real life but if you closed your eyes while listening to my music, it’s the world you might dream up. It’s uber romantic and very expressionist, in a way. I want to encourage my fans to be the biggest version of themselves. Inside a video game, you’re free to be the most [authentic] version of yourself and not feel like you’re being judged.”

In other news Bobby Prince, the legendary game composer behind iconic DoomDuke Nukem and Wolfenstein soundtracks, has died aged 81.
