Oilers’ Draisaitl sets NHL record for most overtime goals in single post-season

In the words of Calvin Pickard, Edmonton Oilers forward Leon Draisaitl is “as clutch as it gets.”

Literally.

With his fourth overtime goal of this year’s Stanley Cup Playoffs in Game 4 on Thursday, the Oilers star set the NHL record for most OT winners in a single post-season.

Draisaitl broke a five-way tie with Matthew Tkachuk (Panthers, 2023), Corey Perry (Ducks, 2017), Maurice Richard (Canadiens, 1951) and Mel Hill (1939, Bruins), who all had three in a single playoff run.

If that wasn’t enough, Draisaitl also became just the fifth player in league history to score multiple OT goals in a single Stanley Cup Final after he also was the hero in Game 1. He joined Richard (three), Don Raleigh (two), Jacques Lemaire (two) and John LeClair as the only other players with multiple OT goals in the final.

Draisaitl’s other OT winners came in Game 2 of Round 2 against the Vegas Golden Knights, and Game 4 of Round 1 against the Los Angeles Kings.

But none were bigger than this one, as it helped the Oilers finish off a three-goal comeback to tie the series 2-2 and turn this Cup Final into a best-of-three.
