NATHAN ASPINALL has admitted he’s not a fan of darts’ new ‘opera singer’ referee Franz Engerer – but insists the German shouldn’t be axed.
Engerer has gone viral for his theatrical “180” calls as he belts them out with operatic flair during Euro Tour matches.

The 24-year-old – who was described by Laura Woods as ‘German eye candy’ – went viral on social media with his antics seemingly being like Marmite.
But world No8 Aspinall revealed his dislike towards Engerer’s choir-esque calling.
He laughed and told talkSPORT: “You know what? I was on a train and I was watching the game.
“He was shouting and I was like, ‘I actually don’t think I could play if he was reffing.’
“I just don’t like the call. Nothing against the guy. Don’t sack him. It’s not for me.”
Engerer has been taking singing lessons and performing in choirs since seventh grade and understands his style isn’t for everyone.
He said: “Most of the feedback has been really lovely.
“Of course, not everyone’s a fan – and that’s fine, especially with how unique my 180 is – but it’s amazing to get that recognition.

“People come up to me asking for photos, and that’s just surreal.
“I’ve been taking singing lessons and singing in a choir since seventh grade.
“We’ve performed everything from operas to musicals and solos.”
The saxophone player’s journey into darts officiating began at grassroots competitions like the PDC Europe Super League.
Encouraged by positive feedback, he applied for a caller position and has since become a notable figure on the PDC tour.
