At the end of The Last of Us season 1, Joel saves Ellie from the Fireflies, who were planning to use her immunity to try and cure Cordyceps, something that would kill her in the process. Joel killed everyone, including the surgeon, to get her out. The surgeon's daughter, Abby, arrived in The Last of Us season 2 to exact revenge, killing Joel. After his death, Ellie sets out on a revenge quest of her own.
