How to Make No Knead Dutch Oven Bread
Full directions on how to make this simple bread recipe are in the printable recipe card below. This is a quick walk through on how it is made.

Step 1: Activate the Yeast
In a small bowl, mix the warm water, sugar, and yeast.
Let it sit for about 5 minutes until it becomes foamy.

Step 2: Mix the Dough
In a large bowl, stir together the flour and salt.
Add the yeast mixture and stir with a wooden spoon until a shaggy dough forms.
Tip: If the dough feels too sticky, add more flour 1 tablespoon at a time. If it feels too dry, add water 1 tablespoon at a time.

Step 3: Transfer the dough to a greased bowl, turning once so all sides are lightly coated with oil.
Cover with a clean kitchen towel and let it rise in a warm spot until doubled in size (about 1½ to 2 hours).

Step 4: Lightly flour a large piece of parchment paper.
Turn the dough out onto the paper and gently shape it into an oval.
Cover it with a towel while the oven preheats.
Step 5: Preheat your oven to 470°F. Place your Dutch Oven (with the lid) inside the oven while it heats.

Step 6: Once preheated, carefully lift the dough (using the edges of the parchment paper) and lower it into the hot Dutch Oven.
Cover and bake for 30 minutes.
Then remove the lid and bake uncovered for another 10–15 minutes until the crust is golden brown.

Step 7: Remove the bread from the oven and cool it on a wire rack for at least 30–60 minutes before slicing.

Notes
• The bread stays fresh at room temperature for up to three days if wrapped well in plastic, but it is best when fresh. It can be frozen for up to three months.
• I used all-purpose flour. Bread flour works well.
• Parchment paper is important for this recipe. Readers should not use waxed paper or similar, it must be parchment paper.
• 1 envelope of yeast is ¼ ounce or 2 ¼ teaspoons.
• Honey can be used instead of sugar.
