Nintendo fans have been praising the Switch 2’s sweary GameChat feature, which doesn’t censor rude words.
READ MORE: ‘Mario Kart World’ is a supercharged reinvention of the ultimate party gameThe Switch 2 launched yesterday (June 5) and fans have been singing the praises of the “incredible” new Nintendo console across social media. People are loving the improved graphics, the faster loading times and how comfortable the new console feels, while launch title Mario Kart World has also been getting some glowing reviews.
The Switch 2’s new GameChat feature has also been getting a lot of love. GameChat allows players to chat to one another, without the need for a third-party platform like Discord.
“GameChat, a brand new feature on Nintendo Switch 2, lets a group of up to 12 people chat while playing games. You can share your screen in real time, even if you’re playing different games! Whether you’re sharing an in-game discovery or just waving hello, GameChat makes it feel like your friends are right there next to you. If you connect a compatible USB-C camera, you can also see each other while playing with GameChat,” Nintendo explained.
There are also a range of accessibility options like speech-to-text, which allows hard of hearing users to experience GameChat. The feature transcribes everything a player says, even swear words.
“Great news! The speech to text transcription option in Switch 2 Gamechat, where you see a transcript of your chat with friends, doesn’t censor swearing by default,” gaming journalist Laura Kate Dale wrote on Bluesky (via NintendoLife). “Accessibility win for disabled people being allowed to read the words fuck and shit.”
“This is the best accessibility news I’ve heard all day. This is our right as depraved, uncouth rogue elements in society,” replied one user. “That trend is extremely frustrating, I’m shocked to hear that Nintendo of all things would be so proactive on that front,” said another.
Following the launch of the Switch 2, one store had to apologise after accidentally destroying a number of consoles. Staff secured receipts to the box with a stapler but this ended up puncturing the Switch 2’s screen, ruining the console.
“We’ve addressed a unique case of staples damaging Switch 2 screens—isolated to one store. Replacements have been offered. Staplers have been confiscated,” they wrote on social media.
In other news, it’s been confirmed that Black Myth: Wukong is finally heading to Xbox exactly one year after it launched for PlayStation and PC.
