Nick Offerman shares how Parks and Rec cast reacted to Jonathan Joss’ death
Nick Offerman recently opened up about how the Parks and Recreation cast has been coping with the heartbreaking loss of their co-star Jonathan Joss. In a statement to PEOPLE, Offerman revealed that the cast members have been in constant contact, supporting one another as they process the tragedy.
Offerman said, “The cast has been texting together about it all day and we’re just heartbroken.” The actor further added, “Jonathan was such a sweet guy and we loved having him as our Chief Ken Hotate. A terrible tragedy.” Joss was known for his role as the Wamapoke tribe’s chief on the hit sitcom, a part he played for five years.
Tragically, on June 1, Joss was shot and killed during a dispute at his home in Texas’ San Antonio. Police responded to the scene around 7 p.m., finding him seriously injured near the road, where he was pronounced dead.
The suspect, who was identified as 56-year-old Sigfredo Alvarez Cejam, lived nearby. He fled the scene but was quickly arrested. He now faces murder charges as authorities continue their investigation.
In a heartfelt post on Facebook, Joss’ husband, Tristan Kern de Gonzales, shared that the couple had faced ongoing harassment for more than two years, much of which was homophobic. This escalated after their home was destroyed by fire three months earlier. Gonzales wrote, “Jonathan and I had no weapons. We were not threatening anyone…We were standing side by side. When the man fired, Jonathan pushed me out of the way. He saved my life…I will carry that forward. I will protect what he built.”
