Yesterday, developer Build a Rocket Boy and publisher IO Interactive released the third-person action-adventure game MindsEye. Its launch was messy. PS5 players who purchased the game have found tons of bugs and performance issues and are now demanding refunds.

Players are looking to get a PS Store refund for new PS5 game Mindseye

A user in the MindsEye subreddit asked if there was any way for them to get a refund on the PS Store as the game “runs like crap and is faulty.” As many other PS5 players point out, unless it’s a special case like Cyberpunk 2077, Sony probably won’t issue a refund if the player has already downloaded the game.

“I’ve been playing video games since Zork and I’ve never wanted a refund… Until now,” says a user in the thread.

Since its release, evidence of the technical disaster that is MindsEye has mounted for everyone to see. This includes the picture above from X user Synth Potato. MindsEye has even been compared to Assassin’s Creed Unity, which had a similar visual bug when it launched.

“Game has horrible marketing, exec(s) claiming bad press is being paid for, and generic looking gameplay at best…for $60,” reads one reaction to the photo from the MindsEye subreddit.

The launch has been so tumultuous that even the streamer DarkViperAU, who was doing a sponsored stream for MindsEye, could not do an ad read for the game without laughing (H/T Synth Potato).

It seems the reactions to MindsEye’s launch have impacted it in a pretty major way. According to SteamDB, in its first 24 hours, the game hit a peak player count of just 3,302 users. This was essentially right when the game launched yesterday. As of this writing, there are currently 1,365 concurrent players. Steam reviews haven’t been the greatest either, as they are sitting at “Mixed” across 1,036 user reviews.

For the morbidly curious, MindsEye is available for PS5 on the PS Store for $59.99. For what it’s worth, it says it’s PS5 Pro Enhanced. There is also a Deluxe Edition for $79.99.
