The nationalities of foreign criminals will be revealed for the first time alongside their offences in a league table set to be published by the Home Office.

It will represent the first detailed breakdown of the countries of origin for people who are being prepared for deportation by the government.

Home Secretary Yvette Cooper is said to have overruled officials at the department who believed it would be too difficult to collect the data needed for the table.

It is expected the information will be published by the end of the year.

Robert Jenrick, the shadow justice secretary, claimed the announcement as a win after he tabled an amendment calling for the publication of the figures last year.

In a video posted on social media, he said: ‘The cover-up is coming to an end. We’ll finally see the hard reality, that mass migration is fuelling crime across our country.

‘Frankly, the public deserved to know this long ago.’

According to the Daily Telegraph, the worst offenders are expected to be Albanians, Romanians and Poles.

A Home Office official told the newspaper: ‘Not only are we deporting foreign criminals at a rate never seen when Chris Philp and Robert Jenrick were in charge at the Home Office, but we will also be publishing far more information about that cohort of offenders than the Tories ever did.’

While Labour is deporting at a faster rate than the Conservatives, the number of people waiting to be removed from the UK has grown.

A Home Office release cited ‘heightened interest from parliamentarians, the media and members of the public’ as a reason for compiling the more detailed data.

It added that the information may not be included in the next few data releases from the department due to ‘a number of issues which affect the quality of the data held’.

Any non-British and non-Irish national who is sentenced to more than 12 months in prison for an offence in the UK becomes subject to automatic deportation.

According to the latest data, there were 19,244 foreign criminals awaiting deportation at the end of last year, up from 17,907 when the Conservatives left office in July.

Last month, the government said 3,594 foreign national offenders had been deported since the 2024 election, which represented a 16% increase in removals.
