It was high time for Khamzat Chimaev to come forth and send a response to Caio Borralho for all the heat that he brought to the Chechen’s doorsteps. Things picked up pace between the Brazilian and ‘Borz’ right after talks of Dricus Du Plessis being out of UFC 317 due to an injury began to swirl around on the internet. ‘The Natural’ seemed to take this as the perfect chance to pounce on Chimaev and save the event. And as the heat between Chimaev and Borralho continued to rise, ‘Borz’ has fired the next shot with a training video.
The video showed the Chechen Wolf sparring with one of his training partners, Rustam Edilsultanov. In the video that has been going viral on the internet, ‘Borz’ displayed his dominant explosive prowess yet again. But he seemed to be on equal footing with Edilstultanov. The surprising fact was that Chimaev’s sparring partner was much smaller than him, and yet, the undefeated UFC juggernaut seemed to have his hands full.
In the first instance, Edilsultanov jumped on Chimaev with impeccable speed and attempted to drop him with a single-leg takedown. Chimaev resisted a bit, but his training partner took control of his back. In another instance, ‘Borz’ tried to slam Edilsultanov, but yet again, he was tackled with a strength that made things difficult for the middleweight star. Nevertheless, he ultimately lifted his training partner and slammed him down on the mat, proving once and for all that he wasn’t a force to be stifled with.
In light of the newly dropped grappling footage, let’s reflect on the time when Chimaev sent a shockwave through the fighting community with his performance against Robert Whittaker at UFC 308. He had returned after battling violent illness and asserted his dominance against ‘The Reaper’. Not only did he win via a first-round rear-naked choke submission. Chimaev showed an explosiveness that many fighters in his division lack. Paired with his impressive strength, the RNC was enough to submit his opponent and unintentionally break his lower mandible in the process.
And this footage definitely rhymes with bad news for Caio Borralho. Whittaker isn’t a weak grappler at all. Yet, he was manhandled by ‘Borz’. Borralho, even though he is a black belt in BJJ, will face quite a bit of trouble against Chimaev. Nevertheless, he seemed to be confident enough to take on the Chechen Wolf. But do you know what transpired between ‘The Natural’ and ‘Borz’? Let’s take a look at the exchange of words between the middleweights.
The heat between Khamzat Chimaev and Caio Borralho continues to rise
This is not the first time that ‘The Natural’ has put Chimaev in his crosshairs. Previously, during an appearance on Submission radio, Borralho claimed that the Chechen Wolf needed one more fight in the division to get to a title shot. And with Du Plessis reportedly injured, things seemed to have moved in Borralho’s favor. Taking to X, he made an announcement, quoting, “Khamzat said yes! The only thing that makes sense is the interim belt.”
But Chimaev was pretty confident in his skills against Borralho. And that was natural. After all, he absolutely destroyed Whittaker right after coming out of illness. On social media, Chimaev targeted the Brazilian and wrote, “If we will fight hundred times, you will never win if somebody knows you know that bro.” And the response to that? Borralho slammed back, “If you say so Khamzat Chimaev. Sign the contract and we will see.”
Nevertheless, it all depends on Dana White to make sure that the fight happens. But we also need a confirmation from the South African champion’s team regarding his stance on UFC 317. If he’s alright and up to take on Chimaev in his next title defense, we’re definitely in for some unforgettable action.
