When describing Hulu’s Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Sarah Michelle Gellar clarified that the show is a continuation and not a reboot.
What did Sarah Michelle Gellar say about the Buffy the Vampire Slayer reboot?
While speaking with ET, Gellar emphasized that the Buffy revival should not be categorized as a reboot.
“I want to be careful to make everyone understand it’s not a reboot. It’s a continuation of a world,” Gellar said. “So it’s picking up 25 years later in a world of Buffy, if that makes sense.”
Earlier this year, a Buffy the Vampire Slayer sequel series received a pilot order at Hulu. Gellar is attached to return as Buffy Summers, the iconic vampire slayer from the original series. Gellar is only expected to appear in a recurring role, while Ryan Kiera Armstrong will headline the series as Nova, an introverted high school student and the newest vampire slayer.
Gellar, an executive producer on the next chapter in the Buffyverse, revealed that the show recently shot the pilot. Gellar wants it to be known that this show is for the fans.
“There’s so little I can say about what we just shot. I will say that it’s equal parts incredibly thrilling but also very nerve-wracking,” Gellar explained. “People have been asking for this for so many years, but everyone also has an opinion on how it should be done. I’m doing it for the fans, so I hope that they love it, but I know they’ll all have opinions too. It was made with a lot of love and a lot of passion and a lot of thought behind it.”
The rest of the Buffy cast features Faly Rakotohavana, Ava Jean, Sarah Bock, Daniel Di Tomasso, Jack Cutmore-Scott, Merrin Dungey, Audrey Hsieh, Audrey Grace Marshall, and Chase Sui Wonders.
Nora Zuckerman and Lila Zuckerman are listed as showrunners, writers, and executive producers. Chloé Zhao is an executive producer and directed the pilot. Hulu’s Buffy the Vampire Slayer has no release date.
