New Blade Runner Series Already Has a Definitive Answer for Season 2

The recently released trailer of Blade Runner 2099 may have excited fans of the sci-fi franchise, but the team behind the Prime Video series has already confirmed that the show won’t receive a Season 2. In a recent interview, creator and showrunner Silka Luisa officially sealed the fate of the new Blade Runner series, giving out a surprising yet obvious reason for the project’s one-and-done nature.

Silka Luisa explains why there won’t be a Blade Runner 2099 Season 2

While speaking with Collider‘s Steve Weintraub at the 2026 San Diego Comic-Con, Luisa revealed that Blade Runner 2099 won’t have a Season 2, as the team had always planned on completing the show’s narrative in one go.

“It was always considered as a limited series,” the seasoned producer said. “Part of making the transition from film to TV is a really big jump for something that’s as cinematic as Blade Runner, and so, in that sense, it was really important to us that we told a story that, in a way, is like a movie in the sense that there’s a beginning, there’s a middle, and there’s an end.”

She continued, “We went into it with Alcon, with all of our producing partners, knowing we really want to tell a complete story. Eight episodes—I mean, eight’s my lucky number, that’s the number I would have picked, but it felt like the right amount for the story we were planning on telling.”

Luisa further confirmed that the Blade Runner 2099 writers had already composed scripts for all eight episodes long before cameras started rolling.

Set in 2099 Los Angeles, the new Blade Runner series follows the escapades of Olwen (Michelle Yeoh), a Replicant, and her human partner, Cora (Hunter Schafer), as they join forces to hunt down a batch of rogue Replicants. The supporting cast of the miniseries also includes Dimitri Abold, Lewis Gribben, Katelyn Rose Downey, Daniel Rigby, Johnny Harris, Amy Lennox, Sheila Atim, and Matthew Needham, among others. The series is on track to premiere on Prime Video on November 25, 2026.
