The late critic Roger Ebert was certainly Twilight-pilled in the months following the film’s culture-defining success in 2008. Several studios set about producing similar YA movies, preferably with vampires at the center. The years immediately following Twilight’s release saw movies such as the Fright Nightremake, Red Riding Hood, Cirque du Freak: The Vampire's Assistant, and shows such as The Vampire Diaries and Teen Wolf, to name just a few. Among this wave of fantasy content aimed at teenagers was a movie that stood out for its transgressive qualities. It wasn’t very successful at the box office, but it received a positive review from Ebert and has gone on to become one of the defining cult classics of the 2000s. The movie is currently streaming in the United States on Netflix, but not for much longer.
