Neagley currently holds a 90% “fresh” rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Critics praised the Reacher spinoff for its action and Maria Sten’s lead performance. The series premieres all eight episodes on Prime Video on Wednesday, Sept. 16.

Dominic Baez of The Seattle Times gave Neagley a fresh score. He wrote, “It remembers that Neagley isn’t Reacher, no matter their similarities.” He added the show “leans into Reacher’s strengths, but it’s not afraid to try a few new things.”

Daniel Fienberg of The Hollywood Reporter described Neagley as “a satisfying series when it keeps its focus on well-executed action beats.” He noted the show “becomes tedious” when exposition takes over. Fienberg also praised Sten for “digging beneath the character’s robotic exterior.”

David Caballero of Collider gave the show a 7/10 rating. He wrote that it “successfully delivers a compelling, intimate mystery.” He added the series “doesn’t do nearly enough to distinguish itself from its parent series.” Caballero praised Sten’s chemistry with the supporting cast throughout the season.

Rafael Motamayor of The Wrap highlighted the show’s deeper character focus. He called it “a thrilling detective show with a bigger focus on character psychology.” Motamayor noted the show explores Neagley’s haphephobia and the traumas that shaped her.

Alison Herman of Variety offered a negative review of the spinoff. She called Neagley “a collection of hard-surface, soft-heart tropes that never achieve independent momentum.” Herman argued the spinoff lacks the lead appeal of its parent series. The series comes from Reacher creator Nick Santora and Emmy-winning TV veteran Nicholas Wootton.
