The NBA issued a three-game suspension without pay to Detroit Pistons forward Isaiah Stewart following a physical altercation between him and Phoenix Suns’ Drew Eubanks, the league announced Thursday.
The incident occurred on Feb. 14 before a game in Phoenix. Stewart was arrested for assault, after which he was issued a citation and released, according to Phoenix police. Adrian Wojnarowski reports that the assault charge has been dismissed.
“The attack on Drew Eubanks was unprovoked, and acts of violence such as this are unacceptable,” the Suns said in a statement immediately following the incident. “We unequivocally support Drew, and will continue to work with local law enforcement and the NBA.”
Stewart was involved in an on-court altercation with the Lakers’ LeBron James in 2021 that saw Stewart suspended for two games and James for one.
“Keep the game first. There’s a lot of noise,” Suns star Kevin Durant said. “It’s unfortunate what happened before the game, it’s supposed to be a brotherhood. But I also understand, dudes get into stuff. We try to avoid that in this league, hopefully we can move on from it. We all support Drew.”
Stewart began serving the suspension Thursday night in a loss at Indiana. He’s averaging 11 points and 6.8 rebounds and has started 34 of 35 games this season.
