24 years after getting unfairly cancelled, a beloved sci-fi series is finally returning, but with a twist.Firefly, created by Joss Whedon, was cancelled after 11 of the 14 episodes produced aired, only three months after its September 20, 2002, debut on the Fox network. Despite its short run, Firefly was a hit among critics and audiences and even received strong sales when it was released on DVD. On top of that, it won an Emmy Award in 2003 for Outstanding Special Visual Effects for a Series and built a loyal fan base that launched campaigns to try to save the series from being canceled by Fox.
