Academy Award-winning star Natalie Portman has opened up about the possibility of reprising her role as Padmé Amidala in future Star Wars projects. This comes after Portman’s former co-stars Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christensen had made their official return to the Star Wars universe, beginning on the 2022 miniseries Obi-Wan Kenobi. Afterwards, Christensen went to reprise his role as Anakin Skywalker in the Ahsoka series.
What did Natalie Portman say about a possible Star Wars return?
During a recent interview, when asked about her possible Star Wars return, Portman admitted that she’s actually open to anything at the moment, but admitted that Lucasfilm hasn’t reached out about it. The acclaimed actress’ last appearance as Padmé was in the 2005 movie Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith, which had just celebrated its 20th Anniversary. In the third installment of the prequel trilogy, Padme died after giving birth to her twins, Luke and Leia.
“Nobody’s asked me, but I’m open to everything you know. Life’s only fun if you’re open to every possibility,” Portman said.
Revenge of the Sith was written and directed by George Lucas. The ensemble cast included McGregor, Portman, Christensen, Ian McDiarmid, Frank Oz as Yoda, Jimmy Smits, Peter Mayhew, Ahmed Best, Oliver Ford Davies, Temuera Morrison, Anthony Daniels, Silas Carson, Kenny Baker, with Samuel L. Jackson as Mace Windu and Christopher Lee as Count Dooku. Since its theatrical debut in 2005, it has received a Certified Fresh rating of 80% on Rotten Tomatoes, making it the highest-rated installment of the prequel trilogy.
