Are Wild, Wild West tunes playing in your ears? Well, they should, because NASCAR is heading to cowboy country this weekend. Texas Motor Speedway is gearing up for a grand showdown as all three national NASCAR divisions will be at Fort Worth, Texas. From the appearance of a star-studded Hollywood movie star to the Most Popular Driver bringing a snazzy paint scheme, fans are in for a dazzling experience.
The festivities will start on Friday and end with a massive bang on Sunday. Most of the attention will be on Chase Elliott, the defending Texas Cup Series race winner. However, with a huge chunk of the Cup Series field gearing up, the battle could get intense. So buckle up, and read on to get information about the events, especially the much-awaited WÜRTH 400 race.
All you need to know about Texas Motor Speedway
The 1.5-mile speedway is packed with legendary memories. For instance, the first NASCAR Cup Series race there only made it half a lap before a 13-car wreck commenced. Jeff Burton managed to escape a late-race accident and won with a 4.067-second lead. Then Dale Earnhardt Jr, a massive icon and spokesperson of the sport, won his first Cup Series race in just his 12th start as a rookie in 2000. Similarly, wild cautions and surprise winners are expected in the 2025 race as well. The last four Texas races produced 11 or more cautions, and there have been 8 different winners in the last 8 races. But before we jump into the actual race, let’s talk about the essentials that you need to know.
The festivities will begin with the Craftsman Truck Series, which will practice, qualify, and race Friday at Texas. The Xfinity Series will practice and qualify for Saturday’s event. Lastly, the Cup Series will practice and qualify on Saturday for Sunday’s 400-mile race. The qualifying order of the Cup race is determined via a metric that combines the previous race finish by owner (70%) and current owner points position (30%). The weekend weather shows a 50% chance of rain at the Truck race, 7% at Xfinity, and 6% at Cup. Journalist Bob Pockrass updated about the schedule on X.

Fans can head over to the official website of Texas Motor Speedway to buy tickets, which range from $16 to $238. For people eager to watch from home, they can tune in to FS1, MRN, PRN, The CE, and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio. Pockrass also updated about the purses on X: “Cup: $11,055,250…Xfinity: $1,651,939…Truck: $782,900.”
The entry list for the Cup Series race, the WÜRTH 400, is no less exciting. The Cup field will feature the expected 36 chartered teams with no driver changes. But at the same time, two open teams have also entered the event with the No. 66 of Chad Finchum (Garage 66 team), as well as Jesse Love in the No. 62 Beard Motorsports Chevrolet. Love, a two-time Xfinity Series race winner just as a sophomore driver, will turn heads as Texas marks his second Cup start. The Xfinity Series will feature Katherine Legge and Corey Day among its 40 entries, while the Truck Series will have Carson Hocevar as the special entry among 32 trucks.
Clearly, the hype around NASCAR’s visit to Texas cannot be overstated. That is why eyes are on a particular Cup Series driver to rock it on Sunday.
Patience wins the game
Well, shock winners can produce the most sensational stories. However, the most consistent and persevering in NASCAR are the ones who really arrest our attention. William Byron is one of them, as he has routinely put himself in a position to win lately. He’s also been the most consistent driver through 10 races, clinching 7 top-ten finishes. His average start (10.3) and average finish (8.5) rank best among all drivers. What is more, Byron has excelled at Texas Motor Speedway. He scored the most points over the last three races and finished third or better in three of the last four races, including his 2023 playoff win. He may not have won since Daytona, but he has been in control of the driver standings since COTA.
So NASCAR’s Racing Insights places William Byron in its highest regard while predicting the winner this weekend. To help the No. 24 Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet driver, there is a bevy of support. Byron hailed his pillars after clinching the Daytona 500 victory. “We have great communication,” Byron said of his team, led by crew chief Rudy Fugle. “We’ve overcome a lot of adversity, where we’ve had stretches that we’ve had to work through things and we always communicate and work together to grow closer.” What is more, a 4-time Cup Series champion and HMS executive also guides him. “We’ve created our own team – with Jeff’s support – and he’s with us at meetings and backing us. It’s really meaningful because he could easily be doing something else, but he’s there supporting us.”
With so many strong people behind his back, William Byron may finally reach the mark this time. Let us wait and see if the HMS star can beat his competitors at Texas or not.
