We all have our comfort films. For some, it comes in the form of a beloved childhood classic, for others, its an entry from Hollywood’s Golden Age. For me, however, it’s Luca Guadagnino’s bloody cannibal romance, Bones and All. Based on Camille DeAngelis’ novel of the same name, the picture takes the ideas of the book and turns them up to sickening levels of gore and horror, and, indeed, many avoided the movie when it was released in November of 2022 for that very reason. But for me, the movie is so much more than a violent fest of carnage and taboo mayhem. In fact, it’s one of the most beautiful pieces of cinema I’ve ever seen, and I find comfort in the picture with each watch.
