The Episode 2 ending of Apple TV+’s new science fiction comedy, Murderbot, unveiled the tragic fate of a DeltFall survey team that was on the same planet as PreservationAux. Earlier in the episode, PreservationAux member Gurathin had warned his team about the possibility of SecUnits going “rogue” and potentially killing their human handlers.

However, what happened to the DeltFall survey team is not another Murderbot going “rogue.” According to the book The Murderbot Diaries, DeltFall faced an unexpected attack from a different team.

Do the DeltFall survey team and their Murderbot die in Episode 2’s ending?

At the end of Episode 2 of Murderbot, the PreservationAux team calls DeltFall and gets no response. Viewers get to see the tragic demise of the entire team of DeltFall survey, including their SecUnit bot (aka their murderbot), through the protagonist, Murderbot (Alexander Skarsgård)’s feed.

On the first look, it may seem like another SecUnit had gone rogue and killed the entire DeltFal survey team. But in reality, the team died in an attack from the corporation, GrayCris. The corporation mines alien remnants and sells them at a high price illegally through black market deals.

So in the book, the DeltFall survey team gets killed by GrayCris as the latter tries to conceal all information about the alien remnants. If the Apple TV+ series follows the book’s plot, viewers will see the surmounting tension between the “corporate” and their teams as the fight against GrayCris begins.

Once other teams learn about GrayCris’ evil actions, an investigation begins at PreservationAux. But the progress of the investigation stalls entirely when the protagonist of the story, Murderbot, disappears. On top of that, a member of the PreservationAux gets kidnapped.

The situation becomes a complex standoff between PreservationAux, GrayCris, and the Company. Only after rescuing the kidnapped member and GrayCris’ failed attack on a Company gunship does their opposition gain an advantage.

Meanwhile, Apple TV+‘s Murderbot has started with rave reviews. Ahead of the first two episodes’ release, it received 98% ratings on Rotten Tomatoes and 69% on Metacritic. The series overall will comprise ten episodes. The finale will premiere on July 11.
