Here’s what happened.
What happened to Miley Cyrus at Tribeca Festival?
At the 2025 Tribeca Festival, Miley Cyrus was unexpectedly heckled during the premiere of her visual album, Something Beautiful, held at New York City’s Beacon Theatre on June 6. The event was set up as a screening and Q&A session featuring Cyrus alongside co-directors Brendan Walter and Jacob Bixenman, and producer Panos Cosmatos. However, several fans in the crowd began interrupting the event.
In a video shared on X (formerly Twitter), one audience member could be heard shouting, “We thought this was a concert. We paid $800.” Another fan yelled, “Are you actually going to sing?” These questions triggered a loud reaction from the crowd, many of whom seemed to share the same misunderstanding. Cyrus was visibly caught off guard by the shouting and attempted to continue the event.
However, tension escalated when someone from the crowd demanded that Cyrus perform “The Climb.” To this, she responded, “You have to start it,” before delivering a short a cappella version of the 2009 hit. Her impromptu performance received cheers from the crowd.
Clips from the incident quickly spread across social media, with many fans supporting Cyrus and criticizing the audience. One user wrote on X, “These people are so trashy omg… it’s a FILM festival, with a FILM premiering, and a CONVERSATION with Miley afterwards… at no point was it advertised as anything else.”
Another commented, “The same people heckling her and demanding she sing will go back their retail or food service jobs and complain when people yell or are rude to them.”
