Paul Atkins, who previously served as an SEC commissioner from 2002 to 2008, has been long associated with pro-crypto initiatives. In 2017, he became co-chair of the Token Alliance, a prominent advocacy group lobbying for favorable crypto regulation. He also served as an advisor to FTX, the now-defunct crypto exchange that collapsed in 2022.

Despite the controversial FTX connection, Atkins has retained strong support in crypto and libertarian circles, largely due to his market-friendly stance and efforts to promote innovation over restriction.
