“Nobody expected us to win,” said Pat Murphy, who seems to have gotten a pretty good read of the league and the fanbase. The Milwaukee Brewers are set to wrap up the season holding the majors’ best record—a feat unseen since 1982. When the Phillies lost to the Twins on Saturday night, the Brewers locked themselves as the National League’s No. 1 seed and home-field advantage for the playoffs. Subsequently, the crew will not only host Game 1 of the NL Division Series next weekend, but they will also get home-field advantage for every Game 1 right up to the World Series, if they manage to make it that far.
Meanwhile, on the same night, the Cincinnati Reds handed them a 4-7 loss. That left the New York Mets with only one remaining path to the postseason. They’ve got to win tomorrow against the Miami Marlins and hope for the Brewers to defeat the Reds. Any other outcome and they will be eliminated.
In the midst of this chaotic playoff push, while all the Mets united in their hopes for the crew to come out victorious in game 162, a former Met, Jose Reyes, was backing a division rival. He made a desperate 5-word plea to the Brewers: “Brewers don’t let me down .” The former New York shortstop had spent 16 years in the majors. He had spent two stints with the Mets across 12 seasons before retiring in 2020 as a Met.
Brewers don’t let me down

For a veteran so deeply tied to the Mets, his rallying cry for the Milwaukee Brewers stunned Mets fans. For the record, despite being at their worst as of late, the Mets owned Saturday’s game. Clay Holmes held Miami to only one hit over six shutout innings at LoanDepot Park for a 5-0 win.
Entering play Sunday, the Mets (83-78) will remain half a game ahead of the Reds (82-78) for the final National League Wild Card spot. Now, they will need a win and a Reds loss on Sunday to make it to October.
Meanwhile, for Reyes’ favorite Brewers (96-65), they have to win only one game to break the club record. With their key weapon inching closer to returning as early as Sunday, they can certainly break the record.
Milwaukee Brewers’ key reliever nears return
The Milwaukee Brewers could get a much-needed lift just in time. Reliever Trevor Megill, who had been recovering from a right flexor strain for over a month, is now aiming to return and might even get a trial run in Sunday’s crucial regular-season finale against the Cincinnati Reds.
He hasn’t taken over the mound since August 24. It made things a bit difficult for the Brewers in this final stretch, but they still managed to secure the Major League’s best record. Moving forward, especially in October, the crew would make the most of him in late-inning meltdowns.

Before getting injured, he held a 2.54 ERA and posted 30 saves. However, his last few outings before August 24 were a bit shaky, having blown three saves in four appearances.
Speaking of his progress, Megill went against hitters in a simulated game and had encouraging results. Now, the next goal of the Brewers’ staff is to see him throw live in action. Even briefly, they would do the work before they finalize their division series roster.
As manager Pat Murphy sees this idea, Megill doesn’t NEED to pitch in the finale game to secure his spot. However, at the same time, he added that watching him against crucial competition would give the Brewers some clarity. “It’ll help him. It’ll help us.” he said. Do you think Megill’s presence will give the Brewers’ bullpen a major edge?
