Meghan Markle lawsuit threat over bath salt recipe explained
A lawsuit threat has surfaced against Meghan Markle after a Maryland woman, Robin Patrick, claimed that the Duchess’ homemade bath salt recipe led to severe injuries. Featured on Meghan’s Netflix series, With Love, Meghan, the recipe included Epsom salt, lavender oil, arnica oil, and pink Himalayan salt. Patrick, a diabetic, followed the recipe and alleges that it resulted in “catastrophic burns, ulcers, and significant discomfort.”
Describing her experience, Patrick explained that while she initially felt a “mild tingling sensation,” the discomfort escalated. She immediately exited the tub but continued to feel “burning sensations.” She said, “That evening, while showering, I experienced intense burning as water contacted the affected areas, which had developed into ulcers.” (via RadarOnline)
Patrick has since demanded $75,000 in compensation to cover her medical treatment expenses and additional costs related to the alleged injuries. Furthermore, she is asking the Duchess, Netflix, IPC, and Archwell Productions for $10 million in punitive damages, citing “emotional distress, potential PTSD…disfigurement…and long-term medical care.” She argues that Markle and the producers of the show acted recklessly by not providing sufficient warnings. Patrick has expressed a willingness to resolve the matter through a financial settlement to avoid further legal action.
In response to the lawsuit threat, Markle’s lawyer, Cameron Stracher, firmly rejected the claims. He argued that there was no legal basis for the suit, emphasizing that the ingredients in the bath salts are not “inherently dangerous.” Stracher pointed out that Patrick’s diabetic condition was likely a contributing factor to the burns, as Epsom salts are typically not recommended for diabetics unless advised by a physician.
Stracher also stated, “None of the parties responsible for the Series, including the entities you list in your letter, owe you a particular duty of care because you do not have a special relationship with any of them as a matter of law.” (via The Independent)
