The Netflix series based on the Extraction films has expanded its cast with three new additions, including a Moon Knight actor. This latest update strengthens the upcoming TV adaptation as it carries the action franchise into a new format.
Moon Knight’s May Calamawy and two others cast in Extraction series
Netflix expanded the cast of its upcoming Extraction series by adding May Calamawy, Waleed Zuaiter, and Ed Speleers.
Calamawy and Zuaiter will appear as series regulars, while Speleers will take on a recurring guest role. They join Omar Sy, Boyd Holbrook, and Natalie Dormer, who already signed on as part of the ensemble. Glen Mazzara created the eight-episode series and AGBO, the company founded by Anthony and Joe Russo, produces it.
Calamawy plays Priscilla Ragab, an intelligent and empathetic executive who stays composed under pressure. Zuaiter portrays Hamza Najjar, a former soldier driven by a strong sense of justice. Speleers takes on the role of Alford Griff, an unpredictable engineer. Deadline confirmed these roles in its reporting.
Netflix continues its strategy of expanding film franchises into television with this series. The original Extraction, based on the graphic novel Ciudad by Ande Parks, debuted in 2020. Chris Hemsworth starred as black ops mercenary Tyler Rake.
The sequel, Extraction 2, premiered in 2023 and brought back Hemsworth in a new mission. This time he had to rescue a gangster’s family from a Georgian prison. AGBO produced both films, and Sam Hargrave directed each installment.
The television adaptation follows Omar Sy as a mercenary on a mission to rescue hostages in Libya. He becomes entangled in conflict between rival factions. The narrative highlights trauma, betrayal, and moral choices faced by its central characters.
According to Netflix, Glen Mazzara serves as showrunner, writer, and executive producer. Additional executive producers include Angela Russo-Otstot, Scott Nemes, Chris Castaldi, Sam Hargrave, Eric Gitter, and Peter Schwerin.
This marks the second time Netflix has extended one of its original films into a series, after To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before inspired the spinoff XO, Kitty.
