AMC has officially accelerated the timeline for the return of the Immortal Universe, revealing at New York Comic Con that Mayfair Witches will return sooner than previously anticipated. The series, which debuted its Season 3 trailer during a panel on October 9, 2026, is officially subtitled Mayfair Witches: Salem Coven and is scheduled to premiere on Wednesday, December 30, 2026.
The new date marks a shift from earlier teaser materials that suggested a 2027 release window. Season 3 will be available on both AMC and the AMC+ streaming platform. The trailer showcased a significant tonal and geographical shift for the production, moving the primary narrative from the wrought-iron balconies of New Orleans to the historical backdrop of Salem, Massachusetts.
The new season introduces 'spellbound' families and deeper historical folklore.
The relocation to Salem introduces a fresh identity for the series as it bridges Anne Rice’s established mythology with historical American folklore. According to production details, the new season will introduce “spellbound” families and explore the legacy of the 1690s witch trials. Visuals from the trailer depict Rowan Fielding, played by Alexandra Daddario, embracing more volatile powers, including scenes of her levitating with blackened eyes as electricity crackles around her.
This season also marks a change in the creative leadership. Tom Schnauz, known for his work on Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul, has joined the production as co-showrunner alongside Esta Spalding. This shift comes as AMC Networks continues to expand the interconnected elements of its Anne Rice adaptations, recently nodding to the Mayfair family in sister series Interview with the Vampire through mentions of a “book club” between Lestat de Lioncourt and Cortland Mayfair.
The casting for Salem Coven brings several high-profile additions to the ensemble. Michiel Huisman joins the cast as Michael, a character described as a local carpenter and innkeeper who becomes romantically involved with Rowan. While the character shares a name with Michael Curry from Rice’s novels—a character previously merged with Ciprien Grieve for the television adaptation—this version appears to be a new interpretation tailored for the Salem setting.
Other confirmed cast additions include:
Betsy Brandt as Katherine James Frain as Solomon Eliza Scanlen as Jessica Omar Maskati as LeoAs the series moves into this new chapter, it seeks to deepen the lore of the “Immortal Universe” by grounding the Mayfair legacy in the broader history of witchcraft in America. The move to a December 30 premiere positions the show as a major year-end anchor for AMC’s programming slate, following a year of significant growth for the franchise.
