Mau P Delivers Tech House Masterclass During (Almost) 5-Hour Set in Denver

Despite a wild, 30-minute weather delay, Mau P had everyone on their Baddest Behavior during a masterful open-to-close performance at the Auraria Campus.

When you look at some of the biggest electronic artists of the 2020s, Mau P is a name that stands out. Following the release of his debut single, “Drugs From Amsterdam” in 2022, the 29-year-old Dutch phenom has asserted absolute dominance in the scene. Now, with multiple smash hits and the growth of his curated event brand, Baddest Behavior, he looks to take his career to new heights with lofty goals such as a debut album, a clothing brand, and more.

I’ve personally grown quite fond of Mau P after seeing him play an early support slot a couple of years ago. He brings a signature groovy style that’s unique to him. He’s made his rounds in Denver since 2023, making each show bigger and better every year. In 2024, he played a four-hour open-to-close show at Mission Ballroom, and in 2025, he played a spectacular, two-hour set at the iconic Red Rocks Amphitheatre.

For 2026, he decided to take it up a notch and throw one of his most ambitious Baddest Behavior shows to date in the Mile High City by performing a five-hour open-to-close set at the Auraria Campus in the heart of downtown Denver on July 31. This event quickly became one of my most anticipated shows of the year, especially because I missed his 2024 Mission Ballroom open-to-close set due to a severe snowstorm. I’ve never seen a set that’s lasted five hours, but I couldn’t wait to see the artistic vision that Mau P had in store.

The crowd showed up early as Mau P started his set in funky fashion.

This was my second time attending a show at the Auraria Campus, with the first being during the Zeds Dead Backyard Jamboree on the 4th of July. The venue is currently a stand-in for Civic Center Park as it undergoes renovations, but both are similar in layout, amenities, and capacity.

When I arrived to the venue 20 minutes prior to doors, there was a decently long line to get in, but it made me thrilled to see so many people arriving early for the show. The layout Mau P choose was immersive, with minimal screens and large pillars scattered throughout the crowd.

He started the set with a chiller tempo, but it was groovy enough to ease the crowd in. The vibes were great, with everyone dancing in the warm Denver summer air. Mau P played his smash hit, “BEATS FROM THE UNDERGROUND,” a little over an hour in. This was the point when he started to kick it up a notch, and the crowd started to show more energy as well.

Everything was going great for the next 20 minutes. But then, dark clouds rolled in, and lighting started to flash in the distance.

A flash rainstorm created a 30-minute delay, and a wet and wild scene.

The music stopped about a minute after the first lighting sighting. A voice on the PA system announced that there would be a temporary delay due to the weather, asking fans to clear the area near the stage.

This news was immediately met with a collective groan from the crowd, but everyone started to scatter and look for cover as rain started to pick up. Within minutes, thunder boomed overhead and there was a torrential downpour that lasted for about 10-15 minutes. It left many attendees soaked for the rest of the night.

Fortunately, one member of my group and I avoided most of the rain as we found cover inside a parking garage before the real chaos ensued. The rest of my group wasn’t so lucky.

Rain wasn’t on the forecast earlier in the day — but Denver weather can change on a dime, and this was one of the hardest downpours I’ve ever seen. While it was unfortunate that the music was delayed, spirits were high as we couldn’t wait for Mau P’s set to resume.

Once music resumed, Mau P put his foot on the gas and kept it there for the rest of the night.

When the clouds and rain quickly cleared, it set the stage for a beautiful night, and the party was once again underway. A little over 30 minutes passed during the delay, but it was honestly nice to get a quick breather before Mau P went full throttle for the rest of the night.

One of the first songs he played after the brief delay was “Dress Code.” This was when I knew he was locking in for the second half of his set.

During the remainder of his performance, he showed how he’s truly a master on the decks by playing fresh IDs and his bangers in ways that I’ve never heard before. Owing to the length of his set, he was able to plan out fantastic buildups that delivered every time. The style, sound, and flow reminded me of a club set in all the best ways. The way he teased the crowd with his smash hit “Like I Like It” for almost an hour was masterfully done, and the payoff was met with an electric reaction from the crowd.

During the last two hours, the production leveled up with pyro and lasers. Screens remained minimal, but that’s because Mau P wanted his music to do the talking.

As the set neared the final hour, there was a colorful fireworks show when he played his popular remix of “The Less I Know The Better.” Because of the weather delay, he was allowed to play 19 minutes past the scheduled end time, which was the cherry on top of a wonderful night. The set clocked in at around four hours and 50 minutes, and Mau P delivered a night full of tech house magic.
