The Next Generation is the fourth entry in the franchise, coming after the critical and financial disappointment of Leatherface: Texas Chainsaw Massacre III. It marks the return of Kim Henkel, who co-wrote the original film with Tobe Hooper, to the franchise; Henkel wrote, produced, and directed The Next Generation.
