Marvel Zombies premiered on Disney+ with mixed reviews on Rotten Tomatoes. Directed by Bryan Andrews, the four-part series features the voices of Elizabeth Olsen, Simu Liu, and Florence Pugh. Critics note its mix of horror and superhero action but remain divided on its execution within the MCU.

Marvel Zombies reviews lead to an average Rotten Tomatoes score

Marvel Animation’s Marvel Zombies has earned a Rotten Tomatoes score of 62% from 21 critics. The audience score stands at 84% from more than 250 ratings. The series is helmed by Bryan Andrews. The story follows surviving Marvel heroes as they confront a zombie plague.

Critics offered divided responses. Bob Strauss of the San Francisco Chronicle wrote that the creators “perform narrative wonders in just four 30-minute installments,” while Rendy Jones of RogerEbert.com argued the show suffered from “tonal stale safeness disguised as freshness.”

Jarrod Jones of the AV Club graded it C-, stating that the heroes were “less lively than the arm-munchers surrounding them.” Sean Boelman of FandomWire gave it 4/10, saying the show “feels satisfied with mere sensationalism.” Joshua Ryan of The Cosmic Circus observed that while the return of characters like Kate Bishop and Shang-Chi was notable, the series “never feels like a worthy vessel.”

On the other hand, Zach Pope praised the four-part event as a “love letter to post apocalyptic horror,” rating it 3.5/5. Audience reviewers echoed enthusiasm, with comments highlighting Kamala Khan, Riri Williams, and Kate Bishop, along with Elizabeth Olsen’s performance as Wanda Maximoff. Multiple viewers requested a second season.

Compared to other Marvel animated shows, Marvel Zombies sits on the lower end of the Tomatometer. X-Men ’97 currently holds 99%, while Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man has 97% and What If…? has 85%. All three exist in alternate universes, whereas Eyes of Wakanda — with a 92% score — is canon to the MCU. Marvel Zombies, with its 62% score, ranks lower than these titles, placing it closer to other Marvel projects like The Punisher at 64% and far above Inhumans at 11%.

The show was released on September 24, 2025, and consists of four episodes rated TV-MA.
