The following year, Microsoft hinted that Marvel’s Wolverine would launch in 2023 but that release window came and went without any official news. Now after years of silence, Insomniac has announced that Marvel’s Wolverine will launch in autumn 2026.
The news was shared alongside a bloody, violent trailer that features Wolverine slashing his way through Japan, Madripoor, and North America whilst key characters Omega Red and Mystique also appear.
“Become a living weapon. As he searches for answers about his past, Wolverine will do whatever it takes – unleashing brutal claw combat, violent rage, and relentless determination – to cut through the mystery of the man he used to be,” reads an official description of the game.
“Bold, resilient, and volatile, Wolverine is a character that all of us at Insomniac are thrilled to explore in collaboration with our friends at Marvel Games and Sony Interactive Entertainment,” reads a blog entry about the game. “Like our Marvel’s Spider-Man franchise, we’re once again combining our super powers to deliver an original take on a beloved character based on Marvel Comics.”
Marvel’s Wolverine will see Australian actor Liam McIntyre take over the role made famous by Hugh Jackman.
“In this story, he is on the hunt to uncover the secrets of a dark past that keeps eluding him. Unfortunately, in this world, he’ll have to dig his claws deep to pull any shred of information that may lead to answers. Often, that means shredding into a relentless onslaught of enemies who aim to stop him by any means necessary. Fueled by unflinching resilience (and a rapid healing factor), Wolverine won’t go down easy if it means keeping the mission on task.”
Insomniac said they’re trying to deliver “the ultimate Wolverine fantasy” but warned the story is “much darker and more brutal than you might expect” from the studio.
Marvel’s Wolverine is set to launch in late 2026 for PlayStation 5.
In other news, Fortnite has announced an official interactive Daft Punk collaboration is coming.
