Scorsese and DiCaprio are on board as executive producers for the film, written by Ocean’s Eleven screenwriter Ted Griffin. Chad A. Verdi of Verdi Productions, LBI Entertainment’s Christopher Donelly and Gareth West are also listed as producers.
Casting is currently underway, with production set to commence in October in Rhode Island.
Verdi Productions president Chad A. Verdi called the film “a dynamic project” and they were all excited to “bring Ted’s outstanding screenplay to the big screen. It’s a pleasure to be collaborating with Marty, Leo, Jen, Gareth and Chris, and our extraordinary producing team will elevate this project to new heights.”
It comes after DiCaprio starred in Scorsese’s latest output, 2023’s Killers of The Flower Moon, which scored a glowing five-star review from NME: “Popular music from the 1920s, Native American songs and Robbie Robertson’s bluesy score help round off this remarkable Western, a film that will linger in the minds of its audience for a long time.”
In other news, earlier this month, Apple TV+ announced a new five-part Scorsese documentary directed by esteemed filmmaker Rebecca Miller, best known for projects like She Came To Me and Personal Velocity.
Scorsese is also producing a documentary about the late Pope Francis, featuring his last on-camera interview. The pontiff, who became pope in 2013 after his predecessor Benedict XVI resigned, died on April 21 at the age of 88.
In February, Scorsese joined names such as Spike Lee, Wes Anderson, and Willem Dafoe in protesting the closure of some of Rome’s most iconic venues, including 50 cinemas. He also surprised film fans by announcing he is working on a project with wrestler-turned-actor Dwayne Johnson.
