Maple Leafs assign G Dennis Hildeby to AHL

After joining the team earlier in the week, Dennis Hildeby is heading back to the AHL.

The Toronto Maple Leafs have assigned the goaltender back to the Marlies following an emergency stint in the NHL, the team announced Wednesday.

He was recalled from the AHL after Anthony Stolarz was injured by a puck to the throat during warmups ahead of a loss to the Ottawa Senators on Saturday.

Stolarz briefly visited the hospital before being released. He said Monday he lost his wind and experienced some swelling, but is now “fine,” and started in the Leafs’ 4-2 win over the Boston Bruins on Tuesday.

Hildeby, 24, has appeared in 19 games with the Maple Leafs this season, posting a .912 save percentage and 2.84 goals-against average. He’s enjoyed similarly strong results with the Marlies at .901 and 2.54 over 17 games.

The Maple Leafs are back in action on Wednesday as they square off against the New York Rangers in the second half of a back-to-back.
