Manchester United and Arsenal have been handed a boost in their pursuit of Brentford attacker Bryan Mbeumo in the summer transfer window.

Mbeumo has enjoyed a remarkable season in Thomas Frank’s side, stepping up to replace Ivan Toney following his big-money departure to Saudi Arabia.

The Cameroon international has notched up 18 goals and six assists in 35 Premier League appearances, and impressed once again at the weekend as Brentford beat United 4-3 at home.

Such performances have understandably placed Mbeumo on the radar of several bigger Premier League clubs who are happy to meet Brentford’s £60million valuation for the 25-year-old.

United are said to have entered the race for Mbeumo as they seek attacking reinforcements for Ruben Amorim’s side in the summer.

Arsenal, Liverpool and Newcastle United have also been credited with interest in Mbeumo, who can play across the attacking line.

And those clubs may well have had their hopes buoyed after Brentford captain Christian Norgaard admitted he is expecting Mbeumo to leave the club in the summer.

‘I think Bryan is likely to go,’ said Norgaard in an interview with Sky Sports.

‘I don’t know about [Yoanne] Wissa yet. Everyone hopes that he might stay. Either way, I’m happy for the season and am happy for both of them. They deserve it so much.’

Norgaard, however, was confident that the club’s excellent recruitement strategy will ensure that any departures will not be felt too severly.

‘I’m pretty calm about what will happen with Bryan and Wissa,’ he added. ‘A lot of questions are asked about them and you can almost feel the worries around the players, when you talk about them maybe leaving us.

‘I was one [of them] when we were losing Ollie Watkins and Said Benrahma, Ivan Toney. So it continues.

‘But the club has already brought in Igor Thiago, who is another fantastic character and he will also take the league by storm at some point.

‘When that is, I don’t know but I’m sure he will be ready if Wissa gets his dream move, or Bryan leaves and there will be a change of the offensive players.

‘I think the club is so talented in recruiting and always being two or three steps ahead.’

Wissa has also attracted interest from clubs higher up the food chain, with reports earlier in the season suggesting that Arsenal and Nottingham Forest were both admirers of the 28-year-old.
