To those excited about seeing all five co-chairs on the Met Gala 2025 carpet, we have bad news… because one will be missing.
This year’s Met will welcome some of Hollywood’s biggest names back to the Metropolitan Museum, all dripping in designer finery for the Superfine: Tailoring Black Style theme.
Of course, Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour will be at the helm, having become as synonymous with the Gala as fries are with McDonald’s or Ant is with Dec—they just go hand in hand, OK?
She’ll be joined by co-chairs Pharrell Williams, Lewis Hamilton, Colman Domingo, and A$AP Rocky, while, sadly, LeBron James is unable to attend.
The Los Angeles Lakers legend announced his absence mere hours before arrivals began, having injured himself just last week at the end of the NBA season.
As reported by ESPN, LeBron suffered a grade 2 MCL sprain in his left knee while taking on the Minnesota Timberwolves on April 30.

It happened during the fourth quarter when LeBron collided with Timberwolves guard Donte DiVincenzo, forcing LeBron to the floor. He managed to return to continue the game, but it seems he’s now paying the price.
Writing on X this evening, the athlete began: ‘Unfortunately because of my knee injury I sustained at the end of the season I won’t be able to attend the Met Gala in NY tonight as so many people have been asking and congratulating me on!’
He added: ‘Hate to miss an historical event! [sic]’
However, LeBron’s other half will still be attending while he cheers her on from home.
‘My beautiful powerful Queen will be there holding the castle down as she always has done!’, LeBron added.
His ‘powerful Queen’ is, of course, Savannah James, to whom he has been married since 2013.

Savannah, 38, is LeBron’s high school sweetheart and has been supporting him since the early days of his career.
They are also proud parents to three children: LeBron ‘Bronny’ James Jr., Bryce Maximus, and Zhuri Nova.
Following his crushing announcement, LeBron was inundated with get-well messages from his fans, boasting a staggering 53million followers on X.
Although many were also just relieved that he wasn’t making another type of announcement
‘I got scared for a moment with how this tweet started’, wrote @kingchefyaoi. ‘Glad he’s prioritizing his health I hope he heals up quickbut now I’m wondering what he was gonna wear…’
@knicks_union tweeted: ‘Bro chill i thought you were announcing your retirement’.

‘Thought this was a retirement post. I was about to jump off a cliff’, echoed @zerowontmiss.
Vogue announced last October that the NBA champ would be an honorary chair for this year’s Met Gala.
The fashion house has promised big things for this year’s theme, explaining that the Costume Institute fundraiser will ‘take the Black dandy as its subject, examining the importance of clothing and style to the formation of Black identities in the Atlantic diaspora.’
From Madonna to Kim Kardashian and Zendaya, some major names are expected on the guest list.
