MAFS star Georges Berthonneau reveals he’s in ‘dream’ new relationship after ‘conveyor belt’ of dating offers

MARRIED At First Sight’s Georges Berthonneau has revealed he’s in a new relationship seven months after splitting from TV wife Peggy Lawrence.

The former couple’s split was acrimonious with Peggy, 33, levelling cheating claims at online coach Georges, which he has always vehemently denied.

Following their separation, he was bombarded by messages from women keen to date him. There were so many that Georges, 31, admitted he was overwhelmed by the tidal wave of offers.

In an exclusive interview with The Sun, he said: “For however long I was single, I basically had the biggest conveyor belt ever. It was frightening. It was like, ‘Oh, my God! This is ridiculous’.”

He relied on his intuition, a gift he picked up from his mum and grandmother, to establish whether or not a person was right for him, and it led him to his current partner.

“I just listened to listen to to my heart,” said Georges. “I met the individual. I’m not gonna go into too much detail, but you know, it’s just been everything that I’ve dreamed of.

“I went on there [Mafs] to try and find someone and I always said from the word go, if I don’t find someone from the show it’s gonna open a door to someone that I might never have met. That’s the reality.”

Peggy told us earlier this month that she is now seeing someone too, and they are also business partners with plans of running a boutique hotel.

Georges told us he would be cordial with Peggy if their paths were to meet again, but he has no desire to have a friendship and bears her little thought.

He said: “I’m not gonna bad mouth. This isn’t for me to talk about her. She could do what she wants, good on her. If I saw on the street, and she looked at me and I saw her, I’d say, ‘Hi!’ That’s it. I’m not gonna have a conversation with her. I have no interest in her and her life. She is past. This is future and present.”

Reflecting on what went wrong in their short-lived romance, he continued: “When she used to say to me, ‘that’s not normal. You shouldn’t think like that’.

“No, I just think differently to you. It doesn’t make me a bad person. I’m not going to sit here and go, ‘you shouldn’t do this. You shouldn’t go do that’. I’m not your teacher but I’m here to listen, learn, and trust.

“If you sit there and you go, ‘I want to do this’ and I really don’t believe in it, I’m going to go, ‘Why?’

“But otherwise I’m not going to question you. I’m going to support you, and I’m going to say if that’s what you fundamentally want to do, it doesn’t have to agree with my morals. I just have to respect your boundaries, and you have to respect mine.

“So if it’s a boundary that is crossed and it’s repeatedly crossed. Then that’s when you have someone that doesn’t respect you. And if someone doesn’t respect you, they ultimately can’t love you, and don’t love you, and don’t want the best for you.”

Mafs couples that have stood the test of time

Loved-up Tayah Victoria and Adam Aveling of series six fame had the first Mafs baby.

The pair couldn’t keep their hands off each other on the programme and quickly found their feet in the outside world, moving into Adam’s Doncaster home.

Just 18 months after meeting, the couple welcomed their daughter Beau.

Season five couple Michelle Walder and Owen Jenkins also managed to make their marriage work away from the cameras and had their first child in December.

Teacher Michelle, 29, has no regrets about taking part in the experiment. She told us: “I just feel very lucky and thankful that it has worked out – and excited for everything to come.”

Michelle and Owen were both sick of dating apps when they applied in 2019.

Owen recalled: “I had been out for some drinks with a friend after work.

“While he was out for a cigarette I was scrolling on Instagram waiting for him to come back in.

“The MAFS advert was the last thing I saw, and I joked, ‘Wouldn’t it be funny if I signed up?’

“A few beers later when I was back at home I sent in the application, and the rest is history.”

Another couple to make Mafs UK history is Zoe Clifton and Jenna Robinson.

Despite a slight rocky start, where they clashed over Jenna’s vegan lifestyle, the show’s first same sex pairing are still going strong.

They even have a successful podcast together called Life With a Pod.

Jenna shed light on being involved in the show earlier this year when she told us: “We’re not legally married, and I never felt like we were. I definitely feel the process makes you take the relationship a lot more seriously and having the help of the experts… if you can survive that process it sets a firm foundation for a long-lasting relationship.”
