Director M. Night Shyamalan's career probably has about as many twists and turns as one of his movies. He's currently enjoying a solid second innings, but there was a time, not too long ago, when the mere mention of his name in the marketing material was viewed as a turn-off. This happened only around a decade or so after he was able to pull audiences on the strength of his brand alone, much like Christopher Nolan these days. In 2002, his film Signs benefited greatly from his past success, delivering the sort of box office numbers that would be considered unfathomable these days.
