Back in 2019, M. Night Shyamalan brought an end to his trilogy of gritty superhero films with the release of Glass, uniting Bruce Willis' David Dunn, aka The Overseer, James McAvoy's Kevin Crumb, aka The Horde, and Samuel L. Jackson's titular Elijah Price, aka Mr. Glass, for one final confrontation. After the comic-inspired, more nuanced highs of Unbreakable and the horror thrills of Split, the final result was a bit of a mixed bag in the eyes of critics. Some saw it as an underwhelming final chapter in one of the more unique attempts at a connected universe of superpowered beings that predates the MCU. However, Shyamalan ultimately accomplished what he set out to do from the get-go — tell an origin story.
