Lorraine Kelly returned to work on Monday morning and revealed the ‘frustrating’ impact of her recent surgery.

The 65-year-old TV star had her ovaries and fallopian tubes removed in a preventative procedure after undergoing a series of tests and scans following a burst cyst in January.

Appearing on Good Morning Britain shortly before returning to her own breakfast show, she revealed that the aftermath of the surgery meant she wasn’t allowed to lift up her grandchild.

‘I’ve just got to take it easy,’ she explained, looking ahead to the next couple of weeks. ‘The only thing I can’t do, which is so frustrating, I can’t hold Billie; I can’t lift her up.’

Lorraine’s surgeon, Ahmed Raafat, told her it’ll be the end of the month before she can hold her grandchild, but she’s feeling ‘totally fine’ and ‘all good’ after the keyhole surgery.

Opening up on her recent health struggles, the presenter noted the procedure was a preventive measure.

‘I had a burst cyst coming back from India in January,’ she said. ‘I got a scan and found out that on the other cyst, there was something suspicious. To be safe, and to prevent anything awful happening, whipped it out.’

She added: ‘I had keyhole surgery; I’ve got three new holes to whip out the ovaries and the fallopian tubes. Nothing sinister, it’s all good!’

Later this morning, Lorraine was joined live on air by her programme’s resident GP, Dr. Hilary Jones, as she talked about her op in a bid to raise awareness.

She praised the medical staff for looking after her ‘so, so well’, saying she now has ‘peace of mind’.

‘I’ve had it (general anaesthetic) before, and I was absolutely fine. I only stayed in for one night and was so well looked after. I couldn’t have asked for better care.

‘Obviously, when I went home, Steve (Lorraine’s husband) had to do everything.’

She added that the company of her young granddaughter is ‘the best medicine in the world,’ as while she’s currently unable to lift her, they can still have cuddles, which ‘lifts [her] spirits’.

Dr. Hilary then mentioned that some women feel an ’emotional impact’ after such procedures, contemplating whether it makes them ‘less of a woman’.

Lorraine said this wasn’t really the case for her, adding: ‘I think, because of my age, I’m nearly 66… that ship has sailed a long time ago, having babies.

‘The only thing is, I have to take tiny, tiny bits of testosterone. I’m not gonna grow a beard; it’ll be fine! But you just have to get the balance right.’

Dr. Hilary chimed in to explain that ‘what most women don’t understand is that you make oestrogen and testosterone,’ with the testosterone essential to give you ‘energy and sexual desire’.

Lorraine concluded that having her ovaries removed is now somewhat of a ‘relief’ as she knows ‘everything is fine’.

‘It means it’s one less worry, and for me, it was actually an amazing thing to do and the right thing to do, and I would just say to anyone, if you’re worried, make sure you go and get yourself checked out.’

In a statement before her comeback, ITV said: ‘Women’s health remains at the forefront of the programme’s agenda-setting conversations, and Monday’s show will be no different.’

They added: ‘Lorraine will shed light on the importance of ovarian health as well as the signs and preventative measures viewers can take in a bid to avert and overcome female cancers.’

Late last week, Lorraine shared a photo of herself up and about in a purple tracksuit with a big smile on her face, holding granddaughter Billie with the help of her surgeon.
