While we all love bagging a bargain in the Middle of Lidl, you can end up going all the way there, only to find the item you had your eye on has sold out.

But now, the supermarket is launching a new feature that could make these frustrating trips a thing of the past.

This week, Lidl announced it will be trialling a Click, Reserve & Collect service via the Lidl Plus app for the first time ever, giving customers the opportunity to order middle aisle products up to two weeks in advance.

From Monday April 7, the Parkside Robot Lawnmower will be available to reserve via Lidl Plus ahead of the item landing in stores on April 24.

App users will then be able to select their preferred store to collect between April 16 and April 19.

Priced at £199 for Lidl Plus members – over £150 cheaper than a comparable version from a well-known tools brand – the Parkside mower (which can be pre-ordered alongside a Robot Lawnmower Garage for £24.99) is a regular sell-out with the discount retailer.

It’s still a ‘while stocks last’ product, so shoppers are advised to reserve ASAP if they don’t want to miss out. However, this new feature means more people than ever are with a chance of snagging a limited edition buy.

No announcement has been made as to whether this will be rolled out long-term, but Lidl claims the trial is part of a push to ‘build on the innovation and success’ of its rewards app, which launched in 2020 and now boasts more 100 million users globally.

Jassine Ouali, chief customer officer at Lidl GB, commented: ‘We’re always exploring bold new ways to enhance our customers’ shopping experience and are pleased to be in a position where we can bring this latest trial to life.

‘We know how popular our Middle of Lidl deals are, and this trial will give our Lidl Plus customers the chance to secure a must-have item before it hits the shelves. We can’t wait to see how our customers respond.’

Another of the supermarket’s introductions inspired an overwhelmingly positive response after hitting shelves earlier this month.

At 89p, Lidl’s Brioche Chocolate Croissant has already proven a huge hit, with shoppers describing it as ‘unreal’, ‘insanely good’ and ‘out of this world.’

Plans for a pub inside one of its Northern Ireland branches were slightly more controversial though.

While some said they were ‘buzzing’ at the prospect, one person commented: ‘The middle aisle is going to be utter chaos.’
