Four-division champion Canelo Alvarez continues to achieve new milestones at the tail end of his career. He recently became the first ever boxer to become a two-time undisputed super middleweight champion. However, according to his business manager, Richard Schaefer, the Mexican superstar could leave the likes of Floyd Mayweather and Mike Tyson in the dust with a new career high.
Mayweather is popularly known for being the richest boxer in the history of the sport, with $1.5 billion total earnings during his decorated career. Today, he has an astounding net worth of approximately $500 million, per Sports Illustrated. Similarly, Mike Tyson has appeared in some of history’s biggest fights, pocketing several million throughout the years.
While his early 2000s bankruptcy set him back quite a bit, he has since bounced back with several businesses. Regardless, in a recent interview with Fight Hub TV, Schaefer revealed that Canelo Alvarez could become the first-ever boxer to have a billion-dollar-plus net worth. “He’s just great at everything he does, and he’s without any question the smartest businessman in boxing I have ever met,” Schaefer said.

Schaefer further added, “He’s going to be the first fighter to break the billion-dollar net worth. I have zero questions about it.” The former banker and CEO of Golden Boy Promotions has been working with Canelo since the Mexican superstar was 17 years old. His presence during the William Scull fight came as a bit of a surprise since he was happily retired.
But as he revealed, Canelo Alvarez reached out to him to collaborate once again to achieve new heights in the sport. It’s worth noting that Canelo Alvarez recently surpassed Cristiano Ronaldo to become the highest-paid athlete of 2025. Not to mention, during Canelo’s nearly 20-year-long boxing career, the 34-year-old is estimated to have earned $600 million by Forbes.
With his latest 4-fight deal with His Excellency Turki Alalshikh, crossing that $1 billion net worth mark doesn’t seem impossible, especially because of the hype around his upcoming fight against Terence Crawford. However, that’s not all Schaefer has predicted Canelo would do!
Richard Schaefer predicts Canelo Alvarez vs. Terence Crawford will surpass ‘MayPac’
Richard Schaefer believes Canelo Alvarez vs. Terence Crawford will eclipse the historic 2015 clash between Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao. “I don’t remember any fight bigger than Canelo-Crawford,” Schaefer told The Ring about the September 13th fight. “It’s going to be the biggest fight in the sport for as long as I can remember.”

He emphasized the difference from MayPac, stating, “With Mayweather-Pacquiao, people hyped it up… but I think Canelo-Crawford is a fight between two men truly in their prime.” Schaefer highlighted Canelo’s durability, saying, “He has never been dropped, never been hurt,” while calling the bout “a fascinating match” and predicting, “This will be substantially bigger” than any fight he’s been part of in 25 years.
Having said that, only time will tell whether Canelo Alvarez can fulfill the predictions Richard Schaefer had made for him. However, with where things are heading for Canelo, his future seems filled with riches. Do you think Canelo can become a billion-dollar boxer?
