Jason Ritter has shared a filming update on HBO’s Lanterns, revealing how many episodes have been completed so far. While he didn’t reveal major plot details, online speculation continues to link his character to a key DC villain. A new theory suggests his role may tie into the origin of the Black Hand.

Jason Ritter discloses that Lanterns is being filmed ‘a little out of order’

In an interview at SeriesFest in Denver, Jason Ritter revealed the number of episodes the Lanterns team has already filmed. He said, “We’ve shot four episodes so far and we’re about to start shooting episodes three and four. We’re doing it all a little out of order. The story is kind of jumping all around, but it’s been so fun and it’s a really well-written, really fun show.” (via Forbes)

The first season of Lanterns will include eight episodes, meaning production has reached the halfway point. Ritter plays Billy Macon, who has been described as “a good-looking charmer who does his father’s bidding. Capitalizing on his family’s reputation, he clings to his small-town ego and has everything to lose.”

Lanterns is part of DC Studios’ Gods and Monsters Chapter One lineup. According to DC co-head James Gunn, the show follows Green Lanterns John Stewart and Hal Jordan as “they discover a terrifying mystery that ties into our largest story of the DCU.” Gunn also described the tone of the series as “almost like True Detective.”

Kyle Chandler plays Hal Jordan. Aaron Pierre stars as John Stewart. Nathan Fillion appears as Guy Gardner. Other confirmed cast members include Kelly Macdonald as Kerry, Poorna Jagannathan as Zoe, Ulrich Thomsen as Sinestro, and Garret Dillahunt as William Macon. Nicole Ari Parker and Sherman Augustus portray John Stewart’s parents.

James Hawes directs the first two episodes of Lanterns. He brings experience from Doctor Who, Black Mirror, and Slow Horses. Fans speculate that Jason Ritter’s character, Billy Macon, ties into the Black Hand storyline — possibly as William Macon Jr. — while Garret Dillahunt plays William Macon Sr.
