Lane Kiffin, the head coach at Ole Miss, has successfully transformed the program and is poised to achieve even greater things. But the personal life and the social media antics of the head coach never ceased to amaze us. In that sense, Athlon Sports rightly said that, “Lane Kiffin (name) is the easiest way to turn a friendly group of football fans into an angry mob.” This is the level of polarization Kiffin carries with him. Be it his X posts or openly attacking opponents. The Lane Train always finds some way to grab headlines. However, this time, the head coach has finally broken his silence on one of the most controversial issues of his life.

Kiffin’s divorce has been a subject of high media coverage, with the issue still making headlines. The head coach married the daughter (Layla Reaves) of the former NFL quarterback, John Reaves, in 2004. The marriage went smoothly for some 12-odd years, but after that, the relationship became tumultuous, and the couple had to separate ultimately. There were all kinds of rumors about Lane Kiffin as accusations of infidelity surfaced.

Even after Kiffin’s divorce was finalized, the media hype didn’t stop. Lane Kiffin was reported to be paying almost 35% of his income to Layla, who was living with the couple’s three children, Landry, Presley, and Knox, in a $10,000 monthly rental Manhattan Beach home. Kiffin, however, requested privacy at the time and sought that the media leave the family alone. Now, years after the couple’s divorce, Kiffin has opened up on a potential reunion with Layla, his ex-wife.

Kiffin was recently on ‘The Pivot Podcast,’ and one of the hosts, Fred Taylor, asked the looming question. “Coach, listen, I’m not a rumor guy, right, but sometimes I see the rumors. Is there like old-new love in the air in the Kiffin family right now?” Well, the question was direct and abrupt and quickly put the Ole Miss head coach on the spot. Kiffin replied and gave a massive hint that Kiffin and his ex-wife, Layla, were probably back together.

“I didn’t hit a rock bottom. I just got tired of digging…Tired of digging myself out of messes.” @Lane_Kiffin

The head coach said. “The family’s back together, maybe not in a traditional way necessarily. My daughter goes to school here, she’s a sophomore. Landry, my second daughter, is going to USC. And then my son is moving here to start 10th grade, and his mom, my ex-wife, is moving here as well. So there’s a lot of stuff going on within that.”

The reconciliation between Kiffin and his ex-wife might have been going on for some time now. We witnessed the head coach attending his daughter Landry’s birthday in New York last December. Moreover, Landry, Kiffin’s daughter, is considered a “lucky charm” by the Rebels’ fraternity. She was the reason the head coach rejected the Auburn move in 2022. Now, the family’s increasing presence in Oxford is a good sign for Ole Miss and the future of the program.

Kiffin opens up about his brutal past and divorce, leading to that

From 2009 to 2013, Lane Kiffin served as the head coach of USC and Tennessee. While he may have taken his job too seriously at the time, his personal life was not as serious. Well, not so much. The tenure at the time was marred by turbulence and accusations of betrayal by the Tennessee fans after the head coach decided to join USC just 14 months later. The move was even criticized, as ESPN reported that the move was so unprofessional on Kiffin’s part that he left a voice note for the Tennessee players at the time.

Kiffin shared the period of his life and reminisced about the things he could have done differently. “I was a head coach at Tennessee and USC, and I was like, that was my higher power. Man, I’m the head coach at USC, and that’s who I am. Not like, oh, I’m a husband, not I’m a father. Like that became my higher power. That was the most important thing to me, and I could feel it.”

The head coach then explained how his neglect of his personal life ultimately led to his divorce. At USC, the head coach was in the media for all the wrong reasons. Since he failed to deliver, he was “humiliatingly” fired. But this was also the time when Kiffin had low points in his personal life.

I ended up getting divorced. No wonder that I end up having a strained relationship with my kids. And then I kind of figured this out later on.” The couple split up in 2016 but have now found their old love, and Kiffin will probably stay at Ole Miss for some time now. The story is a brutal reminder of how the power and glamor of the sporting world can ruin lives even if one doesn’t want to. Lane Kiffin is a more mature person, as evidenced by his increasingly mature X posts. We hope that the bond between the family will remain that way in the long term.
