Lamar Jackson and, in fact, John Harbaugh‘s whole team are all set to not repeat the 2024 mistake and aim high. And in order to do that, the Baltimore Ravens have sent a multimillion-dollar gift to the lightning McQueen of Lamar Jackson, and he has an epic reaction to it. Yes, Lightning McQueen. That’s what Jackson described Derrick Henry as when the star RB displayed a similar pace as that of Lightning McQueen against the Steelers in a wildcard game on January 12, 2025. And now that Henry’s hard work has paid off, do you know how the 28-year-old reacted to it?

As Henry put pen to paper to sign the two-year, $30 million deal extension, the excitement was palpable. The official account of the NFL on Instagram, in collaboration with Lamar Jackson, posted 3 pictures of both the quarterback and running back, as the caption read: “This duo is locked in for the long haul 🤞Lamar Jackson then reshared the same picture on his Instagram stories congratulated the running back with three emojis: “🤞🤞😈”.

We will look into Derrick Henry’s contract extension in detail, but before that, it’s important to glance at the contract extension of Lamar Jackson, as that is something that has been in conversations for a while. Just one day ago, Lamar’s contract extension was making headlines. The Ravens Nation reported that the Ravens “would love” to sign an extension with Jackson before the season kicks off in September, as per The Athletic.

Even John Harbaugh confirmed the news, saying, “There have been conversations about that internally, I know. How far along that is or whatever, I don’t know, but I definitely think it’s an obvious point that you’re making.” Currently, he is under a $260,000,000 deal, which will end in 2027.

The HC also added, “That’s going to continue to have to be addressed, really with all those guys. You just have to kind of manage that dance – the salary cap dance – and Lamar is the main part of that, because he’s the franchise player. That’s a possibility. Sooner or later, that’s definitely going to have to happen.”

Though there have been confidential conversations between the quarterback and DeCosta this offseason, we don’t know what’s brewing behind the scenes. But if there is an extension underway, then it could benefit the franchise as well because his cap balloons to $74.5 million next year. However, if the team chooses to extend his contract for now, they can push back some of that from $74.5 million.

However, before signing Lamar’s extension, the Ravens front office finalized Derrick Henry’s contract. Let’s see what it is all about.

Derrick Henry got a massive extension deal

The Ravens’ running back, Derrick Henry, got a massive deal with $15 million per year on May 14 with $25 million in guarantees. According to NFL.com, “The $15 million per year would also be the third-highest running back contract in the league, trailing only the Philadelphia Eagles’ Saquon Barkley ($20.6 million) and San Francisco 49ers’ Christian McCaffrey ($19 million).” Derrick Henry

God is good !! 🙏🏾🙏🏾@Ravens I’m appreciative & grateful for everyone apart of this great organization & a BIG S/O to all my teammates to be able to make this possible 🤞🏾. Thank you Flock Nation for always supporting . Working as hard I can to be able to…”

And let’s be real, it’s a fair deal as the 31-year-old RB showcased great performances in the 2024 season. In the previous season, he scored the highest number of touchdowns as a running back, ranking no.1. Along with that, he made 325 rushing attempts, which are the 2nd best in the league. He covered 1,921 yards to help the team get 16 touchdowns from his side with an average of 5.9 yards per rushing attempt.

This was Derrick Henry’s first year playing alongside Lamar Jackson and joining the Baltimore Ravens. Despite being new to the team, Henry delivered a standout performance that quickly proved his value to the offense. His powerful running style complemented Lamar’s dynamic playmaking ability, creating one of the most formidable backfields in the league.

Meanwhile, fans and analysts alike are also watching closely to see when Lamar Jackson, who continues to perform at an elite level, will receive his much-anticipated new contract extension.
