Kristen Stewart‘s long-in-development space TV show The Challenger, where she’ll play astronaut and physicist Sally Ride, has officially been given the greenlight at Amazon.

What do we know about Kristen Stewart’s upcoming TV show?

According to a new report from Deadline, the Stewart-led series has been given a limited series order at Amazon. The series comes from Maggie Cohn (The Staircase), who is set to write, executive produce, and serve as showrunner for the project.

The upcoming series will be based on the 2023 book The New Guys by Meredith E. Bagby, and tells the story of the infamous space shuttle Challenger, which broke apart shortly after its takeoff in January 1986 and killed all seven crew members aboard, including Ride.

The disaster is also famous for including Christa McAuliffe, a schoolteacher who had been chosen to participate in the flight as part of a Teacher in Space Project. The project led to the disaster being broadcast live in many schools across the country.

The Challenger will chronicle the story of Ride “and the rest of the diverse Astronaut Class of ’78, through the ranks of the shuttle program, through initial recruitment and training, professional and personal highs and lows, until her historic glass ceiling moment as she becomes the first American woman in space,” according to a logline.

Kyra Segwick and Valerie Stadler will executive produce the series, with Stewart, Dylan Meyer, Maggie McLean, Darryl Frank, Justin Falvey, Maggie Cohn, Meredith E. Bagby, and James Hawes also all attached as executive producers.
