KFC sparked serious excitement recently when it launched a partnership with La Vieille Ferme, AKA chicken wine.

The excitement mounted when it was confirmed that Walkers KFC crisps would be returning five years after they were axed from shops.

And it seems the fast food chain is on a roll, as it’s just announced a new collab with another iconic brand.

KFC and Doritos are joining forces to launch a new limited-edition menu item in the UK: Doritos Loaded.

What is it?

The collaborative dish features two of KFC’s Original Recipe Tenders layered with Tangy Cheese Doritos, cheese sauce, tomato salsa, original ranch dressing, and spicy jalapeños.

After making waves across Europe last month, the drop rolls out in Britain from Monday, September 21.

But you’ll need to act fast as this £5.99 limited-edition item will only be available until October 4 for dine-in, takeaway, and delivery via Just Eat.

Discussing the launch, Stephanie Madden, junior brand manager at KFC, said: ‘Why choose between fried chicken and a bag of crisps when you can have both?

‘Doritos Loaded is our biggest flavour drop of the autumn, bringing maximum crunch and serious hype. Blink, and you’ll miss it!’

A twist on an American classic

If serving loaded comfort food straight out of a chip bag sounds familiar, that’s because it’s tapping directly into state-side street food culture.

The creation takes cues from ‘Frito Pie’, a quintessential US food truck staple where Fritos corn chips are sliced open in the packet and topped with chilli, melted cheese, and more.

But you won’t have to fork out on a flight to try it, as that same vibe is officially crossing the Atlantic – and it’s not the first dish to do so.

A massive wave of US dining culture has been sweeping the UK this year, which has seen the likes of Magnolia Bakery and Dave’s Hot Chicken setting up shop here.

The dish hasn’t launched yet, but already it’s proving a hit online.

‘Can’t wait to get my hands on this,’ wrote an excited @treathefoodie on Instagram.

Similarly, @newfoodspotteruk said: ‘THIS LOOKS INSANE!… Iconic.’

And @mikeyyyystevens called it ‘a dream.’

On Facebook, Mia Franchessca Abel exclaimed: ‘Omg this sounds amazing.’

While Jake Prince shared: ‘Omg, I’d so give these a go!’

But not everyone was quite as enthusiastic about the upcoming launch.

Leigh Harrison posted: ‘Had this in Spain last week and it wasn’t executed very well. Wonder if the UK iteration will be good.’

While Daniel Beale added that he’d tried it in Budapest and thought it was ‘decent’… not the most passionate of reviews.

In other foodie news, McDonald’s World Heist is back, with items from Australia, China and India coming to the UK from September 22.

But it’s not all good news, as the fast-food chain has axed a £2.79 menu favourite, leaving fans ‘devastated’.

Plus, M&S is launching bakery ‘surprise bags’ for just £3.80 at 350 stores, which will contain at least £10.20 worth of items, including cookies, bread, and more.

This comes as the high street favourite released a £2 store cupboard item fans are calling ‘perfect’, and brought back a chocolate tin shoppers say is ‘better than Quality Street’.
