It’s a big day for Kevin Webster (Michael Le Vell) next week in Coronation Street, as he attends a check up following his battle with testicular cancer next week alongside wife Abi (Sally Carman-Duttine) .
Kevin was diagnosed with the disease earlier this year and underwent successful treatment.
At the time, however, his paranoia over his wife’s growing closeness to brother Carl (Jonathan Howard), resulted in him lying to Abi that the treatment hadn’t worked.
While Abi ultimately discovered the truth, she’d already embarked on a steamy affair with Carl, and has, at many points, tried to convince him to flee with her, though he’s never seemed quite as keen on the idea. As a result, she’s remained with Kevin.
At the appointment, Kevin is panicked that he’s ‘tempted fate’ and that the results of his check up could be influenced by his previous lie. Though Abi attempts to soothe Kevin, he remains worried about the outcome as she pushes him to take deep breaths as the specialist finally enters.
Kevin and Abi are elated when the doctor tells them that there are no active cancer cells present and Kevin is left breathing an enormous sigh of relief, though as he continues, Abi begins to bristle.
Proclaiming it a ‘fresh start’ for both him and his wife, Abi becomes more uncomfortable and Kevin clocks her pained expression upon him declaring that he won’t be ‘gotten rid of so easy’.
Later on at home, Kevin begins to discuss retirement, suggesting that he and Abi spend their twilight years doing up old cars.
With that, Abi can take no more and finally tells Kevin that she wants to break up; their marriage is over.
As Abi settles into Carl’s arms, visualising a future with him and all that’ll come with it, Kevin tells Tyrone Dobbs (Alan Halsall) of the news. That new future of Abi’s may be in danger, though, as Carl looks much less than enthused, and Kevin is dead-set on Carl being behind all of this…
