Vertical has shared the official trailer for The Astronaut, its upcoming sci-fi horror thriller led by Kate Mara (Fantastic Four) and Laurence Fishburne (The Matrix trilogy). The movie is scheduled to arrive in theaters on October 17.

What happens in The Astronaut trailer?

The video features Mara as an astronaut whose first space mission goes wrong. After her ship crash-lands back to Earth, she gets placed under surveillance, where she soon realizes that something may have returned from space with her. The trailer highlights some of the strange things happening to her since her return, including mysterious bruises appearing all over her body.

The Astronaut is written and directed by Jess Varley. The cast also includes Gabriel Luna, Ivana Milicevic, Macy Gray, and Scarlett Holmes. The movie is produced by Brad Fuller, Eric B. Fleischman, Chris Abernathy, and Cameron Fuller. The creative team consists of cinematographer Dave Garbett and composer Jacques Brautbar, along with editors Terel Gibson and Joel Griffen.

“When astronaut Sam Walker crash-lands back to Earth, she’s discovered alive in a punctured capsule off the Atlantic coast. General William Harris places her in quarantine under strict NASA surveillance for rehabilitation and testing,” reads the official synopsis. “But as disturbing events escalate, she begins to fear that something extraterrestrial has followed her home.”

It currently has a total running time of 90 minutes or an hour and 30 minutes. Since its world premiere at the 2023 SXSW Film & TV Festival, the movie has received a Tomatometer rating of 50% on Rotten Tomatoes.
