Sony's Karate Kid: Legends finds itself in the exact same position that Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning did a couple of years ago, when it was released in the wake of Christopher Nolan's Oppenheimer and Greta Gerwig's Barbie. The action movie simply could never recover. Karate Kid: Legends is attempting to pull off a Herculean task this weekend, as it debuts after a record-breaking Memorial Day weekend. It's expected to take the third spot on the domestic box office charts, behind last week's two holdover hits, but despite the competition, it's coming in with a higher haul than it was projected to.
