Justin Baldoni, known for his work as an actor and director, is now in the news as the Wayfarer Foundation announces its closure. The foundation, which operated as the philanthropic arm of Wayfarer Studios, confirmed it will wind down operations in the coming weeks.
Here’s what we know so far about the Wayfarer Foundation’s shutdown and Baldoni’s ongoing legal case.
Justin Baldoni’s foundation is closing amid lawsuit drama
Justin Baldoni’s Wayfarer Foundation is shutting down, as announced by co-founder Steve Sarowitz on Instagram.
The board of directors unanimously decided to begin the process of sunsetting the foundation and will fulfill all current grant commitments during the wind-down period. Sarowitz stated, “I am so incredibly proud of the impact this organization has made… Although the Wayfarer Foundation is closing, my personal commitment to giving remains strong.”
The foundation was launched in 2016 and served as the philanthropic arm of Baldoni’s Wayfarer Studios. Its mission, as stated on its website, was to “advance humankind spiritually towards a future peaceful world civilization.” One of its most visible initiatives was the Skid Row Carnival of Love, founded by Baldoni in 2015, which last took place in 2020 and provided support to unhoused individuals in Los Angeles.
The closure comes amid Baldoni’s ongoing legal battle with It Ends with Us co-star Blake Lively. In December 2024, Lively sued Baldoni for sexual harassment and a retaliatory smear campaign. She also named Wayfarer Studios and related entities in the lawsuit. Baldoni denied the allegations and filed a $400 million countersuit against Lively, Ryan Reynolds, publicist Leslie Sloane, and Vision PR, Inc. He accused them of civil extortion and defamation.
The court has scheduled the legal dispute to go to trial in March 2026. Baldoni and Lively co-starred in Colleen Hoover’s novel adaptation It Ends with Us, which premiered in August 2024.
Baldoni discussed the foundation’s work in a 2019 interview with The Hollywood Reporter, highlighting the need to address homelessness, saying, “We have an entire city of people sleeping on the street… too many people who are isolated and being left behind by society.”
